How do I convert my DashDAQ to Strategy Flash?

Answer

Please read this thoroughly. We do ask that you try to do it yourself before calling for assistance.

Be sure that all your tunes, stock file, themes, sound file, splash screen and config file are properly backed up on your computer. The first step is to return you vehicle to stock. If you fail to return your vehicle to stock, the current tune that's loaded on your truck will be saved as your stock file and more than likely you will get a wrong vehicle (3) error when trying to load the first tune.

If your stock file will not reload on your truck, send an email with your vin # and strategy code to techsupport@spartandieseltech.com and a short note saying that you need a new stock file.

If you have the Spartan TCM installed you must remove it prior to returning your vehicle to stock. If you DashDAQ already has the latest firmware update (2.1.2-1949) then all you will have to do is return your vehicle to stock prior to installing the license into the memory of the DashDAQ. You will also need to ensure that the following folders are on the "sd" card. If they are not you will need to create them at this time.

transfer

tuning files

(This folder will be created on your computer after you download and extract the file. Just copy and paste it to the sd card.)

stock files

You can not rename any of the folders. If you do the DashDAQ will not be able to pickup any of the files.

If you are using a new sd card, make sure you format it usiing the DashDAQ before coping the tune and other files to it. To format the card, select Exit from the Gauge screen. Next go to Setup, Memory Card, and then Format.

Download the file that attached to the email from Spartan to your computer and then copy it to the transfer folder on the "sd" card. This file should be named something similar to RefG1E64L_0533. The file could be RefG1 thru 5 depending on the level that you have on your DashDAQ. The last 4 numbers on the file should match up with the serial number of your DashDAQ. If the numbers do not match up with the serial number on you DashDAQ please notify us immediately so we can send you the correct file. This file will have to be installed into the memory of your DashDAQ after updating your unit. Instructions are listed below the procedures for updating your DashDAQ.

Next log into the website. Select "Update Tuner" located on the right side of the page. Now select the package that you wish to download. The first file is for those using the standard (stock) tcm, and the second for those with the Spartan tcm.  Make sure you know the location where the file is being saved.

If you are downloading both sets of tuning files DO NOT mix the non tcm files with the tcm files. If you put them into the same folder then the tunes will not work, as it will overwrite the index file that allows the DashDAQ to pick up the tunes.

DO NOT use the same sd card for the non tcm tunes and the tcm tunes. On the tcm sd card be sure that there is no stock file in the transfer, or stock files folder. This is a must, as you never want to return the truck to stock with the Spartan tcm installed. If you make the mistake and it does return the Spartan tcm to stock you WILL have to ship it back to us for repair!!!!!!!!!!! If it is recoverable we will fix it. If not it will be shipped back to you.....

Find the file that you just downloaded "PhalanxUpdate for those with a stock tcm" and "PhalanxUpdateTCM for those with a Spartan tcm". Copy the file to the root directory of the sd card.  If you have a small sd card 256 or smalled then do not copy the file to the sd card. Just run it from your compute and then copy the tuning files folder to the sd card. Double click on the file. It will open a box with "click OK to begin update of the Spartan Tunefile Database. Click OK and it will copy the tuning files to the "tuning files" folder on the sd card..

Update the firmware using the instructions listed below:

You must have an IBM compatable computer, or some type of program that will allow you to use Windows based programs.  Select the Start Menu on your computer. Next select Control Panel. Now select Classic View on the top left side of the page. If you have Windows XP, select the 32 bit update client. Scroll down the page and select System. The System Type will be displayed on the top portion of the page. It will display 32, or 64-bit Operating System.

You can download the "Update Client" from the following link:

http://www.dashdaq.com/support/downloads.htm

Once it's downloaded you have to install the program on your computer. After that, connect the USB cable to the single USB port on the left side of the DashDAQ. Windows Vista 32 bit & 64 bit operating systems will load the driver automatically when it detects your unit.

If the USB driver is installed properly, the DashDAQ screen will display "Boot halted. You may now attempt to recover."

From your computer desktop, double click the "DashDAQ Update Tool" icon.

From the "DashDAQ Update Client" screen, highlight the serial number, then click "Update Firmware".

From the "Select Upgrade Source" screen, click "Next".

From the "Choose Firmware Options" screen, go to the "" drop down menu & choose the firmware version to install. The latest is DashDAQ 2.1.2.1949.

Select the check box for each of the following components:

Warnings

Media Player (If you select this option, you must remove some of the free items. Your max download size cannot be much over 10 meg, otherwise you'll get an error that the file is too large.
I believe on the newer DashDAQ XL units you may have the memory to download the Media Player.

Be sure you selected every component check box listed above, then click "Next" & wait for the firmware package to download to your computer.

From the "Firmware Package Complete" screen, select "Next" to send the firmware upgrade to your DashDAQ.

WARNING: Once the uploading process to your DashDAQ starts, DO NOT DISCONNECT OR INTERRUPT THE UPLOADING PROCESS, otherwise the DashDAQ may need to be sent to Drew Tech for repairs.

Click "Finish" after the uploading process is complete.

Disconnect the cable.

Insert the SD card in to the DashDAQ.

After your DashDAQ has been updated you will need to install the license (example RefG1E64L_0533) into the memory of the DashDAQ. From Gauges, select Exit. Next select Setup, Memory Card, Install, and License. Highlight the file and press Ok. It will install into the memory of the DashDAQ releasing your tunes.

If you get a message when trying to load a tune that your stock file, strategy, or calibration has changed, and ask if you want to save it, select NO!!!!!!!! If you select yes, then you will get a wrong vehicle (3) error and will not be able to load a tune until we get a new license for your DashDAQ.

After updating your DashDAQ you will need to reload all of your themes, sound files, splash screens and config file.

If you do not have the new themes, sound file, splash screen and config file saved on the sd card, then email techsupport@spartandieseltech.com with a short note asking for all the DashDAQ file and I will send them to you.

With the stock tcm installed load any non Spartan tcm tune. If you place the tcm sd card in the DashDAQ at this time it will NOT show any tunes. You have to have non tcm tunes on the sd card.

DO NOT, DO NOT mix non tcm tunes in with the tcm tunes in the tuning files folder!!!!!

Remember, you must have a Spartan tune loaded into your truck prior to reinstalling the Spartan tcm...
